CoD Committee

The Culture of Data (CoD) planning committee helps to organize the Culture of Data virtual conference. The CoD conference brings together community groups, academia, state/local government, healthcare entities and nonprofit organizations that share a goal of achieving health equity. The Culture of Data conference is designed to strengthen the use of data to support the CPHA vision of creating the healthiest Colorado for everyone by:

  • Sharing innovative practices that promote partnership and collaboration between community members and public health professionals to make data more accessible, meaningful, and actionable.
  • Exploring examples of data sharing with and by communities and how communities can leverage data to advance health equity and health outcomes.
  • Highlighting data sources and methodologies to identify and measure community assets and health equity.

Meetings

What does an average committee meeting look like?

We use the committee meetings to brainstorm and make decisions about conference preparations. We meet once a month from August-December, and twice a month from January-April. We also host an abstract review meeting in January. We don’t expect for committee members to attend every meeting – if you see the agenda and want to weigh in on a particular topic, we welcome you to come!

Meeting Times

We meet monthly on 2nd Thurs from 3-4 from now through April.

Value

What value can members gain from joining or participating in your committee?

This is a fantastic way to really get to know people working in the field of data and evaluation. Our committee is full of very engaged, passionate and accessible members. We also think it’s so valuable to take part in the abstract review process to learn about the variety of public health data collection, analysis, and community partnerships happening across the state. It can also be very instructive to get practice in reviewing abstracts to better your own communication and writing skills.

Expectations

What are the responsibilities and expectations that you have of committee members?

Committee members really help shape the development of the conference – we rely on feedback to help us identify a conference theme and suggestions for keynote speakers. The biggest lift for us and the committee is to review and select abstracts. The committee also assists with sponsorship outreach and moderating sessions during the conference.

Communication

How can committee members expect communications from your committee?

The director and associate director monitor a listserve and email out meeting invites, agendas and committee notes. We also have a google drive to store conference preparation documents.
